‘Appropriate is a must-see for anyone who has ever come in contact with an Irish wedding’
BEWLEY’S CAFÉ THEATRE is proud to present…

Written and performed by Sarah-Jane Scott
Directed by Paul Meade

Nominated for the Bewley’s Café Theatre ‘Little Gem’ Award.

Appropriate is the darkly comic tale of finding love in rural Ireland, following ‘the way’ and a bride that flees her own reception…

Sorcha LOVES weddings. Just like the other girls in the parish, she’s been dying for her own day since forever and ever. The thing is, she has just run away from her own reception. Has she gone mad? Or is this the first moment of clarity she’s had in years? Perched on the edge of her “perfectly planned” life, Sorcha is pure ragin’ at the dawning reality that she’s never really listened to herself. Can she ever go back?

‘smartly taps into the current zeitgeist: our insatiable obsession with weddings, and our hunger for funny stories about lovable, relatable country girls... one can't help but be wooed by (Scott’s) self-depreciating, acutely observed tales of love and loss’ Sunday Times

‘Engrossing…winningly tongue in cheek...Meade and Scott artfully negotiate the emotional shifts of this affecting solo’
Irish Times ★★★★
